This insignia of Escadrille Spa. 75 is one of a series of military and civilian aeronautical insignias sponsored by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Art Program. The Smithsonian's first curator of Aeronautics, Paul Garber, directed the painting of their painting for display in the aeronautical section located in the "Tin Shed" on the National Mall.

Escadrille Spa 75 is a fighter squadron of the French Air Force created on July 13, 1916 during the First World War . The squadron has been in operation almost without interruption since its formation.
