This is a cutaway of a jetavator used on the Navy's Poseidon C-3 submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM). Jetavators like this one controlled the direction of the solid propellant exhaust gases during flight.

The Poseidon C-3 entered service aboard the Navy's fleet ballistic missile submarines in 1973. The Navy took them out of the active inventory in 1991.

Transferred to NASM from the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Program Office in 1973.
