John Young enjoyed the longest career of any astronaut to date. He flew on the first manned Gemini mission, orbited the Moon during the Apollo 10 mission, and drove a rover on the lunar surface as commander of Apollo 16. He also commanded two Space Shuttle flights, including the first launch in 1981, and served as chief of NASA’s astronaut office from 1974 to 1987. Henry Casselli portrays Young suited up for the first orbital shuttle flight.
