One or more keel pins protruded from the bottom of some payloads or payload carriers mounted in the Space Shuttle payload bay. They locked into receptacles on the floor of the payload bay and secured the item in place to structurally mate the payload and the orbiter. NASA released this keel pin from the Hubble Space Telescope equipment inventory.
