Uncolored intaglio of the first gas balloon to carry human beings aloft, ascending from the Tuileries with J.A.C. Charles and M.N. Robert on December 1, 1783. Tuileries Palace is in the background. Caption indicates that 8,000 spectators were present. Published in France, 'Se vend à Paris chez le Noir Md. Fournisseur du Cabinet des Estampes du Roi. Demeurent a Louvre.'
