This gold medallion is part of a display set of five Apollo 11 commemorative items given by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong. Rodolfo Putignani, an Italian silversmith, made three display sets in all and gave them to the U.S. government for presentation to the three Apollo 11 astronauts in honor of their historic first landing on the moon in July 1969.
