This American Defense Service Medal was authorized on June 28, 1941 and isssued to members of the United States Armed forces for service to the country during the limited emergency proclaimed by the President on September 8, 1939 or the unlimited national emergency proclaimed on May 27, 1941. This medal was presented to Col. Chuck Yeager.
