This is an assembled flying V-2 missile model of unknown scale. It is based on the Nazi V-2 missile that carried a 2,000 pound conventional warhead up to 200 miles and was used extensively against London, Antwerp, and other Allied cities during 1944-1945. The model has a pasteboard body, balsa nosecone and fins, and a plastic parachute. A solid propellant rocket motor propels the model; a parachute is deployed at the end of vertical flight. The model can be retrieved and used again. The manufacturer of the model is unknown.
G. Harry Stine, one of the American pioneers in the field of flying rocket models, donated this artifact to the museum in 1973.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
