This is a mockup of the Polaris A-3, the third and last version of the U.S. Navy's first generation submarine-launched ballistic missile. It was deployed between 1964 and 1981. Sixteen were carried on each Polaris submarine. The A-3 had a range of 2,500 nautical miles and carried three W58 thermonuclear warheads, each with a yield of 200 kilotons. Lockheed Missiles and Space made this mockup and the Navy's Bureau of Weapons donated it to NASM in 1962.
