This a training version of the Minuteman III intercontinental-range ballistic missile, deployed since 1970 by the U.S. Air Force. A three-stage, solid-fuel missile, Minuteman IIIs until recently carried up to three independently targeted Mk 12A nuclear warheads a maximum distance of 13,000 km (8,000 miles). They now carry a single nuclear warhead pursuant to arms control agreements between the United States and Russia. Made by Boeing, this missile was donated by the U.S. Air Force.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
