This Apollo Command Module heat transfer model was part of a larger grouping built and used for wind tunnel testing conducted in the development stage of the Apollo program. The testing was to observe and measure the aerodynamic and heat transfer properties of the module at launch and reentry.

NASA transferred the model to the Smithsonaian in 1971.
