This is a model of unknown scale of the U.S. Navy Standard missile (SM). SM-1s and SM-2s, initially built by General Dynamics, have conventional warheads. The first SM-1 was deployed in 1970, had a range of 19 miles, and was primarily an anti-aircraft missile. The first SM-2 entered service in 1981 and had a range of over 45 miles, but it could be used against aircraft, anti-ship missiles, or surface targets. Later versions have an even longer range. SM-3s, made by Raytheon and initially deployed in 2004, carry the Lightweight Exoatmospheric Projectile Kinetic Warhead to destroy enemy theater ballistic missiles by physical impact. John and Cynthia Heyde donated this model on an unknown date.
