This is a model of unknown scale of the Titan I, an early U.S. Air Force intercontinental ballistic missile built by Martin and deployed from 1960-1965. This two-stage, liquid-fuel missile carried a nuclear warhead and had a range of approximately 5,500 nautical miles. Although stored in underground silos, it had to be brought out of the silo to be fired and this made it vulnerable to destruction in an attack. The missile was replaced by the Titan II which was much less vulnerable because it was both stored and fired from underground silos. John and Cynthia Heyde donated this model to NASM on an unknown date.
