This is a 1:100 scale model of the Ariane 3 rocket. These were the third rocket built by the European Space Agency (ESA), a consortium of 11 Western European nations organized in 1974. A three-stage rocket using strap-on boosters, the Ariane 3 first launched a payload into orbit in August 1984. A total of 11 Ariane 3s launched payloads into space before being replaced by the improved Ariane 4. Arianespace built this model and donated it to NASM in 1985.

Display Status

This object is on display in James S. McDonnell Space Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.
