This is a 1:15 scale model of the Titan IIIC rocket, made by the Martin Company for the U.S. Air Force. The rocket consisted of modified liquid-fuel first and second stages from the Titan II intercontinental ballistic missile, two strap-on solid rockets to enhance boost at liftoff, and one of several third stages, depending on the spacecraft being launched. The Air Force successfully used Titan IIICs more than 30 times from 1965 to 1982 to place a variety of military communications and reconnaissance satellites in orbit, with only five complete or partial launch failures. NASA used the rocket in 1973 to launch an Applications Technology Satellite. This model was donated by Congressman George Miller to NASM in 1972.
