This is a wind tunnel model of the Apollo Launch Escape System (LES) nose, with canards or fairings deployed (open). The model was used in wind tunnel tests during the 1960s at the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center for Project Apollo.
The object was donated to the NASM in 1971.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
