Among the items issued to astronauts are velcro-backed leather name tags that can be attached to flight suits and jackets. This name tag is a spare for astronaut Richard J. "Rick" Hieb. He flew as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle in 1991(STS-39), 1992(STS-49), and 1994(STS-65). His first flight was an unclassified Department of Defense mission, followed by a spacewalking satellite retrieval-repair mission, and the International Microgravity Lab research mission.
NASA transferred a number of spare astronaut name tags to the Museum over the years, including this one in 2000.
