This STS-5 mission patch is memorabilia from a NASA Space Shuttle mission launched on November 11, 1982. STS-5 was the fifth space shuttle mission, and the fifth mission for Columbia, the first operational Space Shuttle orbiter. Carrying four crew members (Commander Vance D. Brand, Pilot Robert F. Overmyer and Mission Specialists Joseph P. Allen and William B. Lenoir), STS-5 deployed the first two commercial communications satellites carried by a Space Shuttle.

Michael O'Harro donated this patch to the Museum in 1993.
