This commemorative plaque belonged to Robert L. “Bob” Foster, an engineer who worked with McDonnell Aviation on Project Mercury (1959-1965) and Project Gemini (1965-1967). He also served as base manager, Deputy Director, and Director of Vandenberg Air Force Base during the late 1960s, where this plaque was presented to him in 1974. In 2005, Foster’s daughter, Sarah “Sally” Foster-Chang donated .75 linear feet of documents to the Archives and several of her father’s artifacts to the collection. This plaque complements that collection.

The signatures on the paper backing that has been added to the plaque on the paper backing attached to the reverse side show how many people's work contributed to supporting technological programs.

Sally Foster-Chang donated the plaque to the Museum in 2017.
