This engraved plaque, presented to Dr. Charles Stark Draper by the Experimental Aircraft Association in 1973, recognized Draper for his contributions to sport aviation. As the founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Instrumentation Laboratory, Draper became known as the "father of inertial guidance," and developed guidance systems used for aircraft, naval vessels, rockets, missiles, and spacecraft.

Dr. Draper donated a collection of his awards, including this plaque, to the National Collection in 1974.
