On December 17, 1903, the Wright Brothers completed their first controlled flight with the 1903 Wright Flyer powered, heavier-than-air machine in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The brothers' achievements gave birth to the new age of controlled flight. This plaque was presented to Orville Wright by the National Aeronautic Association at a mass meeting of the Dayton citizens in the National Cash Register Company Auditorium on December 17, 1925 in commemoration of the first flight.
