This device, made by Honeywell, is part of the guidance system for the Gemini spacecraft. Project Gemini explored the ability of a spacercraft to change its orbit, and to rendezvous with other spacecraft.. Therefore it required an intertial guidance system to allow such capabilities.
This component of the guidance system contained three gyroscopes and three pendulous accelerometers, mounted on a four-gimbal structure. These maintained a fixed attitude regardless of the position of the spacecraft. This specimen is probably unflown.
Transferred from NASA to the Museum in 1977.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
