This small storage pouch is designed for astronauts' hair accessories. Long hair must be confined by bands, barrettes, clips, pins, or scrunchies as a matter of safety and courtesy. This storage pouch keeps such items from floating loose in weightlessness. Almost every small thing taken on space missions has a storage container of some type to maintain order. Personal hygiene kits, small tool kits, and first aid kits are some examples of the need to contain small parts that might be easily misplaced or lost if not properly stowed. NASA sent this and a variety of other storage bags, boxes, and containers to the Museum after the Space Shuttle program ended in 2012.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
