This is the training spacesuit that NASA astronaut-geologist Harrison Schmitt used in preparation for his flight to the Moon on board Apollo 17 in 1972. This suit is an A7-L spacesuit, similar to the ones that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin wore on the Apollo 11 mission. It differs from the spacesuit that Schmitt actually wore on his mission. That A7-LB had the zipper relocated around the waist thus allowing the astronaut to sit in the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) during their exploration of the Moon. ILC Industries made this spacesuit under contract with NASA.

NASA Johnson Space Center transferred the suit, is helmet, lunar overshoes and two gloves to the museum after the end of the Apollo program
