Astronauts using the Maurer 70mm camera during the Gemini program could use this objective prism to photograph stars and other objects as short spectra on a single frame of film. Maurer and Hasselblad cameras were used throught the Gemini program to carry out scientific photography experiments and capture traditional still images of astronaut activities and views from the spacecraft.
NASA transferred this prism to the Museum in 1971 along with other small Gemini program artifacts.
