From markings on this artifact, it was identified as a Yamaha manufactured Model 2D60 propeller, of the "Hamilton Type." It was produced on February 23, 1941 for use on a Tachikawa "Ki-54" twin engine advanced trainer aircraft with a Hitachi Ha-13-Ko engine. Prior to World War II, Hamilton Standard sold the right to manufacture propellers in several foreign countries, including Japan.
Begun in the late-19th century as an organ, and later piano, manufacturer, Yamaha first designed wooden aircraft propellers, and then expanded into metal versions before it was forced to abandon production. Using the idle metal production equipment, motorcycles later became part of Yamaha's repertoire after World War II.
