Post’s Toasties Corn Flakes cereal offered this Flash Gordon lithographed tin ring as a promotional premium for fans in 1949.

This item was one of many premium toys of the era distributed through food company promotional campaigns. They often required the submission of box top proof of purchase and payment for shipping and handling. Rather than going to a toy store, consumers mailed away for premiums advertised on packaging or in commercials by sponsors of the related radio and TV shows. Premiums included badges, toys, maps, or books as well as the opportunity to join a fan club run by a newspaper or radio station.

Collector Michael O'Harro donated this toy ring to the Museum in 1993.
