This urine collection bag is part of a kit used for biomedical research in space. Investigations of changes in the human body caused by long-duration spaceflight often require urine samples taken before, during, and after flight to trace and understand those effects. This sample bag is designed for use by males, who urinate into it by attaching the roll-on cuff to the penis. The bag is then detached, sealed, and stored in a freezer for post-flight analysis.

NASA transferred the urine collection kit stuffed with such bags and cleansing wipes to the Museum after the Space Shuttle program ended in 2012.
