Each Apollo spacecraft was equipped with a set of survival rucksacks. The contents were to be used in the event of an emergency landing in remote areas of the world. This anchor would have been used to moor the three-person inflatable life raft. Made of white fabric, it is designed with a wire opening and four nylon lanyards.

This anchor was transferred from NASA to the Smithsonian in 1975.
