This sight, manufactured by the J.A. Maurer Company, was used in testing and astronaut training on the ground to prepare them for photographic experiments during missions. Astronauts aimed cameras in space with optical sights not unlike those used to aim firearms.

NASA transferred this sight to the Museum in 1972.
