This item is part of the test equipment kit from the backup Skylab Orbital Workshop that is displayed in the Museum. It could be used with the sound level meter (A19761817000) and the frequency analyzer (A19761818000), also in the kit.

Skylab was a U.S. space station launched into low Earth orbit in May 1973. Three different three-man crews occupied the laboratory until February 1974. Skylab was equipped with several tool kits and devices for in-flight maintenance tasks, as well as scientific instruments for a variety of research projects.

The three-drawer container of testing equipment, made by McDonnell Douglas, was transferred to the Smithsonian with the backup Skylab Orbital Workshop in December 1975.
