This package contains dehydrated bacon bars, which were freeze-dried for ease of packaging and storage during flight. It was flown on the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969. Since it was not used, it returned to Earth and was transferred to the National Air and Space Museum.
Most space food was easily reconstituted by the astronaut with a water probe which dispensed one half ounce of hot or cold water as required, each time the trigger button was pressed. These bars did not require rehydration and could be eaten straight from the package.
