This package contains coffee crystals, freeze-dried for ease of preservation and storage during flight. It was flown on the Apollo 16 mission in April, 1972, but not consumed during the mission and was returned to Earth. The coffee crystals were easily reconstituted by the astronaut with a water probe which dispensed one half ounce of hot or cold water as required, each time the trigger button was pressed.
Transferred from NASA - Johnson Space Center to the Smithsonian Institution in 1986.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
