This 4-kopek stamp celebrated the flight of Soviet cosmonaut Adrian Nikolayev. On 11 August 1962, Nikolayev became the seventh man in space and the fifth to orbit the Earth on board the spacecraft Vostok 3. While Vostok 3 was in orbit, Vostok 4 carrying cosmonaut Pavel Popovich came within 402 kilometers as the orbits of the two spacecraft crossed.
The Soviet military attaché donated this item to the museum.
