This is a stand for launching an Astron Alpha flying rocket model. It is made of wood and metal. The model has a nylon parachute in the nose. Once the motors stopped burning the parachute deployed and the model gently returned to Earth for reuse.
The manufacturers of the stand and model are unknown. John Langford donated them to the museum in 1996.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
