The hand tool carrier used during the Apollo 12-14 missions consisted of a set of racks onto which tools, sample containers, cameras, and other equipment were mounted. The carrier was transported by hand during the Apollo 12 mission. During the Apollo 14 mission the tool carrier was placed on the mobile equipment transporter, which was wheeled around by astronauts using a handle, in a similar fashion to a wheelbarrow, enabling astronauts to transport equipment on the lunar surface. This system was replaced by a larger tool carrier mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicles from Apollo 15 onward.

This artifact was used by the Apollo 14 astronauts for training and was received by the Smithsonian from NASA, Manned Spacecraft Center in 1972.
