These pants are part of General John W. “Jay” Raymond's dress uniform, which he wore as the first Chief of Space Operations for the U.S. Space Force. Creating a uniform was a top priority for Raymond, who saw it as “the heart of the culture of the service.” He worked with a team between 2020-2022 on a modern design that honors earlier military space activities.

Over his 38-year military career, Raymond supported space operations at the highest levels of the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and U.S. Space Force (USSF). His USAF career spanned from 1984 to 2019, when he left his post as Commander of the U.S. Space Command to take command of the USSF. Raymond served as the first Chief of Space Operations from the founding of the USSF in 2019 until November 2022. He officially retired from active duty on January 1, 2023.
