Skylab, the first U.S. space station, was launched into Earth orbit in May 1973 and occupied until February 1974 by three-man crews on three different missions. Several onboard tool kits contained a variety of tools and supplies for basic repairs and maintenance tasks that the astronauts might need to do while in space. The vise shown here could be attached to the triangular floor grid. It is part of a duplicate tool kit from the backup Skylab orbital workshop displayed in the Museum.
