Type ART-Prints, Original Medium Print, Engraving on Paper, Uncolored Physical Description Uncolored engraving of a balloon launch. The balloon is in the center of the image, hovering above the ground. A number of figures are holding ropes attached to the balloon, preventing it from ascending. They are in the middle of a large, open arena. A chariot race appears to be happening around the balloon. A large crowd of spectators is gathered around the edge of the arena. This print is tentatively identified as showing a J.F. Blanchard ascent from the Champ de Mars in 1799. Dimensions Mat: 29.2 × 50.8cm (11 1/2 in. × 20 in.)
