Physical Description
Uncolored engraving of a balloon launch. The balloon is in the center of the image, hovering above the ground. A number of figures are holding ropes attached to the balloon, preventing it from ascending. They are in the middle of a large, open arena. A chariot race appears to be happening around the balloon. A large crowd of spectators is gathered around the edge of the arena.
This print is tentatively identified as showing a J.F. Blanchard ascent from the Champ de Mars in 1799.
