Routinely installed on the Navy SH-3D helicopters used to recover Apollo astronauts following splashdown, the BL-2330 series hoist was employed in the recovery of every astronaut of the Apollo program. This particular hoist was installed in the resue helcopter used for the recovery of Apollo 8 astronuts in December 1968.

The Breeze Corporation donated this winch to the Smithsonian in 1970.
