This is a developmental spacesuit that the B. F. Goodrich Company made for testing in preparation for the Gemini space program. This pressure suit was used by astronaut Alan Sheppard during NASA's Project Gemini space program. BFG based this suit on their Mercury spacesuit, adding thermal and radiation protection for the longer flights and possible exposure to open space that was planned for the Gemini program.
NASA selected the prototype provided by another competing company, the David Clark Company over this one. The agency transferred the suit to the Museum in the late 1960s.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
