On May 20-21, 1927, Charles Lindbergh literally flew into history when he crossed the Atlantic Ocean in his Ryan NYP Spirit of St. Louis, thus becoming the first pilot to fly solo and nonstop from New York to Paris. This flight made Lindbergh a household name and catapulted him into fame and celebrity. The objects of popular culture in the National Collection display everything from ashtrays to wristwatches reflect the public adulation for Lindbergh and the powerful commercial response to his celebrity. More than 75 years after the Spirit's historic flight, Lindbergh's name still has the power help sell manufactured goods.

 Physical Description A box with green leather and black wood trim on the edges. The top of the box is hinged and opens to reveal a fabric covered interior. On the inside of the lid the fabric has black lettering "The Lone Eagle Col. Charles A. Lindbergh Bulova" The box contains a piece of black felt with a watch stand. The watch band wraps around the felt stand and lies on its side. The watch has a black leather band with a white face with light green numbers. A small square with a small hand located at the bottom in place of the 6 functions as a second counter with the multiples of ten displayed in black. A piece of paper included in the box is a photocopy of the advertisement for the watch. Dimensions 3-D: 8.9 x 15.6 x 5.4cm, 0.2kg (3 1/2 x 6 1/8 x 2 1/8 in., 3/8lb.)
