The WWII pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen blazed the trail for African Americans—indeed their courage is inspirational to all people. Throughout the day visitors will meet some of these pioneers of flight as well as others who have benefited from their legacy—including engineers, pilots, and others whose work involves aviation and space.
Visitors of all ages can follow the flight path of a Tuskegee Airman—learn about these brave men by watching Follow Me! or by hearing actual Tuskegee airmen discuss their experiences. Earn your own copy of the Gold Medal of Honor awarded to the Tuskegee Airmen by participating on Boot Camp, Plane Spotting, and Earning Your Wings. Hands-on activities include designing a squadron badge, building a P-51 Mustang out of Popsicle sticks, or drawing an escape and evasion map.
We rely on the generous support of donors, sponsors, members, and other benefactors to share the history and impact of aviation and spaceflight, educate the public, and inspire future generations. With your help, we can continue to preserve and safeguard the world’s most comprehensive collection of artifacts representing the great achievements of flight and space exploration.
