The inside of an Apollo spacecraft wasn't really big enough for an exercise bike, a set of dumbbells, or a treadmill. So engineers needed a novel way of giving astronauts a compact means of keeping their muscle tone while traveling to and from the Moon. This talk reflects on the use of the Exer-Genie on Apollo 11, an unusual piece of astronaut equipment with origins well outside the space program.

Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin wore these spacesuits when they climbed down from their lunar module Eagle in July 1969 to become the first humans to walk on the Moon.
