Dr. Sally K. Ride lived her life with extraordinary energy, passion, curiosity, and joy. Whether in the classroom or on the tennis court, in the lab or on the launch pad—it was clear from the start that Sally would reach great heights.

Each June we mark the anniversary of one exciting episode of Sally’s extraordinary life—STS-7, the historic mission when she became the first American woman in space. Sally Ride was not the only woman to study and explore our universe. As we celebrate her legacy, we also celebrate the women and gender-expansive people in science who came before her and follow in her footsteps.

Join us in celebrating Sally's legacy with our virtual Sally's Night celebration June 12-18.

Sally's Night at Nationals Park

Sally Ride was also an accomplished athlete and avid sports fan. This year's Sally's Night celebration will kick off at a Sally's Night-themed Nationals baseball game at Nationals Park on June 12 at 1:35 pm. We'll be on site with hands-on activities about space, astronomy, and the women who study and explore our universe. We’ll be joined by special guests, including Sally's sister, the Reverend Doctor Bear Ride, who will throw out the first pitch. Play ball!
