This program, in collaboration with the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery, explores Out Of Many, One, a temporary large scale artwork by artist Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada being completed on the National Mall in early October. Out Of Many, One, a grand landscape portrait presented by the National Portrait Gallery, will be on display throughout October, covering several acres south of the Reflecting Pool between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. Rodriguez-Gerada uses aerospace technologies, such as high precision GPS, to make portraits visible from above. In this program, he will share examples of his past work and the artistic vision for Out Of Many, One. Andrew Johnston of the National Air and Space Museum will provide an overview of the technologies that made the art possible, including satellite technology and views of Washington, DC from space.
