The first successful high-bypass turbofan, the General Electric CF6 was originally built as the TF39 for the U.S. Air Force's giant Lockheed C-5A Galaxy transport. Its first commercial use was on the McDonnell Douglas DC-10. It has since been installed on the Boeing 747, McDonnell Douglas MD-11, and Airbus A300 and A310 wide-body aircraft.
