Von Hardesty is pictured with elevating table that was used, along with light table and optics, by CIA analysts to review U-2 photographs taken over Cuba in October of 1962. The photos were the first to confirm medium-range ballistic missile launch sites under construction in Cuba, and kicked off the most tense 13 days of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
