Astronaut Jack Lousma on Skylab 3 Spacewalk

Skylab 3 astronaut Jack Lousma deploys the Twin Pole Sun Shield, a thin protective cylinder surrounding the Skylab workshop protecting it from tiny space particles and the Sun's scorching heat. The shield was damaged during the Skylab-2 mission.

Skylab 3 was the second crewed mission to Skylab. The crew spent 59 days in orbit. This photo was taken on August 6, 1973.
