Since its large-scale publication in 2014, The Martian has become a cultural phenomenon. In addition to the book’s accolades, the motion picture of the same name was released in 2015 to great acclaim. In fact, The Martian inspired the largest number of applications to the astronaut program than ever before in history. In this live stream May 3 at 8 pm, "The Martian" author Andy Weir and curator of earth and planetary science Matt Shindell will explore The Martian's impact and revisit key scenes in the novel.

This program is for members of the Museum's National Air and Space Society and other Smithsonian membership groups.
